Class of 2000 directed by Paul Wong

Class of 2000 is a Public Service Announcement directed by Paul Wong as part of the Unite Against Racism campaign. Unite Against Racism description of the PSA; “The director draws inspiration from Canadians’ reaction to the arrival of Chinese boat people in 1999, and he attempts to humanize the plight of immigrants and refugees who aspire to lead better lives. The clip addresses mainstream racist views and the words used to identify people.”  The PSA tries to bring forth the notion that an individual’s identity is beyond that of a “refugee” or an “immigrant”. Regardless of ones residential status in Canada every individual aspires to full fill their dreams and achieve their goals as Canadians. When racialized words are used they become barriers of discouragement by dehumanizing individuals.  To view Class of 200 click on http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Z76bSvEeDZ0#!.
